Overview

Nexium Control is a proton pump inhibitor that decreases the amount of acid produced in the stomach. Previous attempts to launch a proton pump inhibitor as an OTC medicine had not translated into pharmacy sales.

The Challenge

Pfizer’s challenge was to avoid previous mistakes and ensure pharmacy teams understood the clinical value of the product.

Pfizer decided to use a blended approach of face to face training and e-Learning to deliver training. They approached the national pharmacy chains who agreed to deliver content via their in-house learning management systems (LMS) but discovered that each deployment required customisation and approval, significantly increasing costs and delivery times.

The Solution

Mediapharm helped Pfizer create bite sized e-Learning modules with case scenarios and product demos using pre-approved learning templates.

The first step was to create an engaging learning story that included the key information that pharmacists and counter staff needed to make confident recommendations. We then uploaded the modules into a central repository where Pfizer could dispatch content wherever it was needed and national chains could access modules via their own internal LMS.

When content was altered, it only needed to be done once and updates were sent automatically to each location rather than manually updating files in different locations. This saved time and effort for the client and their key accounts.

The Results

“Mediapharm offered us a platform to deliver a comprehensive and professional training program, to support the launch of Nexium, that delivered the broad reach across the UK pharmacy network that we were looking for and played an important role in the success of the brand.” Ian Yates, Pfizer.
